Obamacare… is it really reform?
By Jared Stump, Member-at-Large

Friends, I am writing this today to voice my personal opinions on Obama’s health care “reform” plan that is being voted on today in the U.S. House. While it is known that I am against this plan, I have remained relatively silent up to this point. That ends today.

If passed, this bill will cost over one trillion dollars, which some would say isn’t so bad, seeing as how the Obama administration has already spent $700 billion dollars that’s really not theirs to spend to begin with. Do we really want government-run health care? Look at the job they’ve done with General Motors and the United States Post Office - bankrupt! In fact, Ford Motor Company (which didn’t receive any stimulus funds) is now starting to get back on it’s feet while GM remains in the hole.

President Obama insists that this bill MUST be rushed through now in order to provide relief to American families. But here’s the problem: Last time we rushed through legislation, the bill didn’t even get read all the way through. We have two options here:

1) We can ram through incomplete legislation. But when it fails, we’re back to square one, with trillions in taxpayer dollars wasted.

2) We take our time to perfect the legislation. We work together in true bipartisan fashion and listen to the people. We cut out all the earmarks and unnecessary funding, and stick to simply reforming private health insurance. The American people should have the FREEDOM to choose their own insurance and YES, it SHOULD be more affordable. I should note, I myself am not able to afford health insurance at this time.

Judging by the millions of Americans protesting this bill, it’s obvious that the people are not happy. Plan #2 will not only save money, but time as well; because history has shown that if we pass flawed legislation, it will take years, not to mention billions of dollars to fix the problem that we could’ve prevented simply by listening to the American people. Why is President Obama trying to push this through so quickly? The health care system has been flawed for some time now. What difference is a few extra months going to make? We simply cannot risk passing flawed legislation, only to have it backfire on us and our future generations.

Now, let me give Obama credit for fulfilling one of his campaign promises… to unite the country. All across this great land, from sea to shining sea; Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike are joining together to fight against Obamacare. The word ‘reform’ means “to change to a better state.” Yes, we need health care reform. We all know that. But is this bill that President Obama’s proposing true reform?

In the U.S. House, almost every Republican, except one, and at least 36 Democrats are opposing this bill. Will you join them?

One Republican voted for the house healthcare reform bill.

9 Principles, 12 Values

The 9 Principles

1. America Is Good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
God “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” from George Washington’s first Inaugural address.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
Honesty “I hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider to be the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.” George Washington
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
Marriage/Family “It is in the love of one’s family only that heartfelt happiness is known. By a law of our nature, we cannot be happy without the endearing connections of a family.” Thomas Jefferson
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
Justice “I deem one of the essential principles of our government… equal and exact justice to all men of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political.” Thomas Jefferson
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
Life, Liberty, & The Pursuit of Happiness “Everyone has a natural right to choose that vocation in life which he thinks most likely to give him comfortable subsistence.” Thomas Jefferson
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
Charity “It is not everyone who asketh that deserveth charity; all however, are worth of the inquiry or the deserving may suffer.” George Washington
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
On your right to disagree “In a free and republican government, you cannot restrain the voice of the multitude; every man will speak as he thinks, or more properly without thinking.” George Washington
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
Who works for whom? “I consider the people who constitute a society or a nation as the source of all authority in that nation.” Thomas Jefferson
